Did This Stingray Give Birth After I Shot it?

Written By Angelo Bodetti on Thursday, July 2, 2015 | Thursday, July 02, 2015

Before you call me the worst person in the world I need to point out 3 things:

  1. I have no way of knowing if a Stingray is Male, Female or Pregnant when we are Bowfishing
  2. It is perfectly legal to Bowfish for Stingrays
  3. This one was shot in the wing and was set free with the babies without incident
Now that we got that out of the way... I didn't know Stringrays gave birth to live babies, I thought they hatched out of a pod. Anyway, We were out Bowfishing for Stingrays because we recently had some at a restaurant and it was delicious. When we shot this one, we put it into the live well and a few minutes later saw the little ones swimming around. We immediately put them back into the Gulf and set them free.

We did shoot another one that gave birth to 0 babies. We kept this one and I'll have a post soon about how we it was cleaned, cooked and tasted.
